Privacy Policy

Effective date: 1 January 2025  ·  Last updated: 1 January 2025

Short version: We do not collect, store, or transmit your files or personal data. Everything happens locally inside your browser. We have no access to any file you process with this tool.

01

Who We Are

unlock-my-xlsx.com ("we", "us", "our") operates a free, browser-based Excel file protection removal tool. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect (if any), how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

For any privacy-related enquiries, contact us at: [email protected]

02

Information We Do Not Collect

This tool processes all files entirely within your web browser using JavaScript. At no point is any file, file content, or file metadata transmitted to our servers or any third-party server operated by us. Specifically, we do not collect or receive:

  • The contents of any Excel file you upload or process
  • File names, sizes, or metadata of processed files
  • The output (unlocked) files generated by the tool
  • Any personally identifiable information entered on this page
03

Information We May Collect Automatically

Like most websites, our web server and third-party services may automatically collect standard technical information when you visit, including:

  • Your IP address (anonymised where technically feasible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Pages visited and time of visit
  • Referring URL (the page you came from)

This information is used solely for operational purposes — diagnosing technical issues, understanding aggregate traffic, and maintaining service security. It is not used to identify individual users and is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

04

Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements, which helps fund the free operation of this tool. Google AdSense may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve personalised advertisements based on your browsing behaviour across the web.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info.

We do not have access to or control over the cookies placed by Google. Google's Privacy Policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

05

Cookies

This site does not set its own cookies. Third-party services (such as Google AdSense) may set cookies in accordance with their own privacy policies. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of third-party advertising.

06

Local Session Data

When you process a file, the tool stores the output file temporarily in your browser's memory (as a Blob URL / Object URL). This data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is automatically revoked and destroyed after 5 minutes
  • Is immediately destroyed if you close or navigate away from the page
  • Is never written to your browser's local storage, session storage, or IndexedDB
07

Data Retention

Because we do not receive your files or personal data, there is nothing for us to retain in relation to your use of the tool itself. Standard server access logs (IP addresses, page visit metadata) are retained for a maximum of 30 days for security and operational purposes, after which they are deleted.

08

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. As we hold minimal personal data (standard server logs only), requests can typically be resolved straightforwardly. To exercise any rights, contact us at [email protected].

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are in California, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

09

Children's Privacy

This service is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this service, please contact us immediately.

10

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
